Summary of April - Updated May 10, 2011

April has been odd.

To quote Robert Burns, "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go askew".

Things that did not happen:

Gumby did not make it to Pillow Fight Day on the National Mall on April 2. Luckily, I had a White House Easter Egg so I could commemorate the first White House Easter Egg roll.

I wanted to get a picture of Gumby with The Blue Man Group when they were in DC at the Warner Theater but I thought they were there until April fifth. My bad. They closed on April third. So I took a picture of my collection of three six foot inflatable Gumbys and sent it express mail to their next venue which was in Wilmington, Delaware.

I got no response from them. I would like you to help me get a picture of Gumby with The Blue Man Group. Have Gumby, will travel. Please support my petition to them on Facebook. (In order to do this, sign up or log in to Facebook by clicking the link above. Search for Blue Man Group. On their wall, find my post with the Gumby picture icon on and click "Like".  It's that easy.)

We did not observe Raisin and Spice Bar day on April fifth but I created Lend a Hand Day. (I only promised I would take a picture every day for a year.)

Nor did he make it to the flash mob Hustle at the Federal Triangle Metro stop on April 9 or the Takoma Park Art Hop.

Also, I was not in the mood to find an eight track tape for April 11, so again, I created my own holiday. I like mine better.

Robert Redford was dining in a DC restaurant where a friend of mine works. She texted me to tell me he was there. I asked if I could bring Gumby. I cannot post the exact response, but it was a no.

For those of you keeping track, April 16, Organize Your Files Week was missing for nearly a month. This is because documenting this day turned out to be more difficult than I anticipated. The filing cabinet was covered, but I had a Goldilocks-like dilemma. A large Gumby was to big to fit in the space I have. My miniature Gumby was too small against the size of my cabinet. Two medium sized Gumbys were off on other projects. One was in Aruba, and the other one is perched on an Easter bonnet in the window of a local store. But on May 9, I remembered I have this stuffed Gumby which I believe was designed as a car window mascot. A little tape, and April 16 was solved. Another shout out to tape!

Zee and Judy were supposed to be in Baltimore at the end of May, and I planned on using Judy's inflatable raft repair skills to work to fix the leaking Gumbys, but I learned on April 22 they will not be able to make it.

Things that did happen:

I had a problem with National Chocolate Mousse Day because chocolate mousse for my purposed is not photogenic. Then I remembered there is a store in DC called Chocolate Mousse that has bags printed with the store name on it. I asked a friend who works near there to pick up a bag for me, which she did, but they wouldn't simply give one to her. She had to buy something from there first.

My next door neighbor's son, Joshua, did not believe I had a six foot inflatable Gumby until he saw it outside when I posed Gumby for Cherry Blossom Day.

He said "I heard you had a giant Gumby with roller skates, but I didn't believe it until now. But where are his skates?" Sorry, Joshua, it was not a skate day for Gumby, but you will see them eventually.

I brought Gumby over to Junko's so I could take a picture of him with her swiss chard crop for Home Farming Day. While I was there, I also put Gumby in her son Lito's bed, so April 10 became Surprise Lito Day. However, April 10 is also Golfer's Day, so in the spirit of being technically correct, here is Gumby's Golfer's Day picture.

A friend took Gumby to Aruba on a private Gulfstream. I wish I had his life.

4:20 was problematic as Premavision Inc. (the official Gumby people) said I could do this Gumby blog as long as he didn't do anything unethical, illegal or immoral and I felt I could be treading on thin ice with this holiday. I spoke to a friend of mine who is an attorney and she came up with the brilliant idea of making Gumby a medical marijuana card and medical marijuana is now legal in DC. Thank you, Robyn!

A local store had an Easter Bonnet contest, so I made a Gumby-themed Easter Bonnet and entered it. To my surprise, the other contestants were Billy, age 10, Sally, age 9, you get the idea. My husband thinks this is an indication I should grow up.

The woman working at a National pretzel chain where I bought the pretzel for National Pretzel Day did not know it was Pretzel day.

Total expenditures for April is $97.35.

Gumby is conquering the world! We now have followers in France, the UK, Malaysia, Canada, Indonesia, Iran, China, Egypt, Hungary, Italy, Russia and Germany. Thank you all. Share the Gumby love!

Happy National Take Back Prescription Drugs Day!

Prescription drug abuse, particularly amongst teens, is on the rise. Thousands of sites across the country are partnering with the DEA to provide safe places for you to safely dispose of your unused prescription drugs.

Happy National Hairball Awareness Day!

When I made the list of events and holidays for this month, I thought it was yet another stupid holiday. While it sort of is, my cats are shedding like crazy, so I ended up with ample material to make my own hairball simply by petting them. Thank you, Buckwheat, Darla, and Lazarus!

Happy Poem In Your Pocket Day!

Yes, this is the same vest used for Winnie the Pooh Day, but I don't have a lot of things with pockets that fit Gumby, so there it is.

Happy National Pretzel Day!

All I can say about this is that a pretzel vendor did not know this was Pretzel Day. And I did not have pretzels in stock. Down $2.85.

Happy National Straw Hat Month!

Who knew I had a handy straw hat with green grass, but there it is!  And it is being repurposed for tomorrow's holiday. Months and months of more fun to come.

Happy National Jelly Bean Day!

Not the best picture, but jelly beans are small and this is a large Gumby. "You can't always get what you want, but sometimes, you get what you need"

Happy Thank Your Neighbor for the Nice Wicker Furniture Day!

This isn't an official holiday, but it is a holiday at my house. Thank you for love seat, Lydia and Poppy. We hate to have you have you move.

Happy Weed Day!

I guess it is appropriate these pictures are a little blurry. I will retake them the next time I do a shoot. Thanks to Robyn for suggesting Gumby get a medical marijuana card. Here's why April 20 is Weed Day.

Happy Bicycle Day!

Bicycle Day marks the first day someone tried LSD and rode home from his office on a bicycle. Gumby would never do that, but he does like to bicycle. Thank you, Vivian, for loaning me the bicycle.

Happy Rubber Eraser Day!

This is actually sort of a real holiday. Who knew? Read more about it here. Thank you, Lito, for lending me your rubber eraser despite the fact I put Gumby in your bed. You are a good guy.

Happy Blame Someone Else Day!

I blame Tina for showing up with a Hello Kitty on the same day I had Gumby with me.

Happy Home Farming Day!

This is Junko and Will's had yet to germinate crop of Swiss Chard. The chard is doing nicely, and this is an adorable little Home Farm.

Happy Ship of Dreams Day!

I lacked ambition to find an 8 track tape, although this is 8 Track Tape Day. And this ship is just too cool not to use as a prop.

Happy Surprise Lito Day!

Poor Lito. He came home from a bad day at work and this is what he found in his bed. It sort of made him laugh. Gumby was at his house for a different photo shoot, but this opportunity presented itself.

Happy National Frog Month!

I guess frogs need their own month, too. Here is a link for helpful suggestions on how to celebrate frog month. Sorry the frog is blurry, but that is from the tape. Thank you to Jeff, Karen and Anna for giving me this pair of wax frogs years ago!

And today is a very special day! Gumby has flown to Aruba on a private Gulfstream! Don't you wish we could all be Gumby? Thank you, Donna, for taking him aboard. And don't take him to the casinos. Just because he is green, does not mean he is made of green.

Happy Brew Year's Eve!

Brew Years Eve is the holiday of the day. This was a difficult one because while I am no rocket scientist, it was clearly apparent that a beer bottle, even an empty one, would cause Gumby to fall over and we can't have that. But then I remembered! I have my plastic beer mug from the 1996 Republican Convention. It was still a little heavy for Gumby as evidenced by the droopage in these pictures, but it was a better idea than the beer bottle. I am starting to amass a fair number of adverted crisis'.
